The Problem with Pinch Points

June is National Safety Month. As with many manufacturing environments, safety is a regular consideration at Contech. As we design new machinery, we pay special attention to parts and processes that are in need of additional attention to keep our equipment as safe as possible. As we strive to make our equipment safe and user-friendly, there are also steps you can take as business owner to promote a healthy environment.

Anticipating potential hazards will help you in increase the safety of your work place. One such hazard is a machine’s pinch point. A pinch point is any part of a machine that could possibly catch, smash, or pinch the operator. The greater the number of uncovered pinch points, the more careful workers must be to avoid an accident. Some steps can be taken to prevent painful accidents.

The first step is to identify a machine’s pinch points. Knowing the problematic areas on your equipment increases you and your workers’ ability to avoid an accident. The next step is to erect guards and other safety measures to insure that no hands or clothing can accidently get caught in a painful pinch. The final step is to educate employees about workplace hazards, and to make sure that they have the proper resources to avoid an accident.
